The Mental Body

Posted: August 23, 2012 by phaedrap1 in Spirituality

The Mental Body facilitates cognition. It gives you the ability to have thoughts, beliefs, concepts, and higher psychic abilities.  Mental consciousness ranges from  the very specific to the  very general and abstract.  The five mental senses are: Mental hearing, mental feeling, mental sight, the mental equivalent of taste), and the mental equivalent of smell.
The Mental Body has its own range of feeling. When there is excessive focus on negative thought then there is judgment, mental fear, and depression. When the focus is on the positive then there is compassion, understanding, peace, and joy.  The Mental Universe  is overall a place of beauty. It is filled with light – and pastel colors are common. The Mental  Universe, similar to the Astral World, contains a mental replica of the higher universes. It is filled with knowledge about everything.  Mental consciousness is more objective, factual, and impersonal than astral consciousness. However, individual personality and character are at the highest level of development in mental consciousness.
The Mental Body is shaped like the Physical Body. It also has an aura that is oval shaped with pointed ends. The aura extends about 4 to 10 feet from the Physical Body. The usual colors seen are light blue, yellow, gray, silver, white, and gold, however all pastel colors can be present. It has the same major chakras as the physical and astral bodies.  Mental consciousness is awakened through academic study, reading, certain types of energetic stimulation, and certain meditation practices.

The Astral Body

The Astral Body allows you to have desires, emotions, imagination, and psychic abilities. It is the power behind turning thoughts into manifestations.  When in the astral a person feels the full range of emotions from fear, hate, selfishness and sorrow to love, happiness, and ecstasy.  We experience dreams, fantasies, out of body experiences, near death experiences, hallucinations, and visions when in the astral.  There are five astral senses: Clairaudiance , Psychometry , Clairvoyance, the astral equivalent of taste, and astral equivalent of smell.
The Astral World includes anything imaginable, from the worst horrors to the most amazing heavens. The Astral World It is filled with imagery, feeling, and above all a personal point of view.
The Astral Body looks like the physical body and the aura usually in an oval shape sometimes with points at each end. The aura extends about 4 to 9 feet from the Physical Body. It has the same chakras as the physical body.  It changes colour and can be subdued to brilliant in hue depending on mood.
Awareness of the Astral World can be awakened by meditation, psychic development techniques, out of body experiences, shamanic practices, lucid dreaming, certain drugs – especially psychedelics,  certain types of trauma, biochemical imbalances, and certain types of energetic stimulation.

Vimana

Posted: August 23, 2012 by phaedrap1 in Occult

A vimana is a word with several meanings ranging from temple or palace to mythological flying machines described in Sanskrit epics. References to these flying machines are commonplace in ancient Indian texts, even describing their use in warfare. As well as being able to fly within Earth’s atmosphere, vimanas were also said to be able to travel into space and travel under water.

Descriptions in the Vedas and later Indian literature detail vimanas of various shapes and sizes:

  • In the Vedas: the Sun and Indra and several other Vedic deities are transported by flying wheeled chariots pulled by animals, usually horses (but the Vedic god Pusan’s chariot is pulled by goats).
  • The “agnihotra-vimana” with two engines. (Agni means fire in Sanskrit.)
  • The “gaja-vimana” with more engines. (Gaja means elephant in Sanskrit.)
  • Other types named after the kingfisher, ibis, and other animals.

The word comes from Sanskrit and seems to be vi-mana = ‘apart’ or ‘having been measured”. The word also means a part of a Hindu temple. The meaning of the word likely changed in this sequence:

  • An area of land measured out and set apart to be used for sacred purposes.
  • Temple
  • A god’s palace
  • In the Ramayana: the demon-lord Ravana’s flying palace called Pushpaka.
  • In later Indian writings: other flying vehicles, and sometimes as a poetic word for ordinary ground vehicles.

In some modern Indian languages, the word vimana means ordinary real aircraft.

The Buddhist book Vimanavatthu (Pali for “Vimana Stories”) uses the word “vimana” with a different meaning: “a small piece of text used as the inspiration for a Buddhist sermon”.

Sanskrit texts are filled with references to gods who fought battles in the sky using vimanas equipped with weapons as deadly as any we can deploy in these more enlightened times.

In the Ramayana there is a passage in the Ramayana which reads:

“The Pushpaka chariot that resembles the Sun and belongs to my brother was brought by the powerful Ravana; that aerial and excellent car going everywhere at will …. that car resembling a bright cloud in the sky … and the King [Rama] got in, and the excellent car at the command of the Raghira, rose up into the higher atmosphere.'”

“Pushpaka” is Sanskrit for “flowery”. It is the first flying vimana mentioned in Hindu mythology (as distinct from gods’ flying horse-drawn chariots). It is also called Pushpaka Vimana.

The special characteristic of this vehicle is, “What ever may be the number of people sitting in it, always there will be one more seat vacant i.e., If N people sit, There will be (N+1) seats”. It was basically a vehicle that could soar the skies for long distances. It shows that even in ancient times, people were curious about flight and might have tried to design flying vehicles.

Pushpaka was originally made by Maya for Kubera, the God of wealth, but was later stolen, along with Lanka, by his half-brother, the demon king Ravana.

The core epic of the Mahabharata mentions no vimanas, but vimanas often occur in the large amount of matter which was added to the Mahabharata corpus later. One example is that the Asura Maya had a Vimana measuring twelve cubits in circumference, with four strong wheels.

The Mahabharata is a veritable gold mine of information relating to conflicts between gods who are said to have settled their differences apparently using weapons as lethal as those we have now. Apart from ‘blazing missiles’, the poem records the use of other deadly weapons. ‘Indra’s Dart’ (Indravajra) operated via a circular ‘reflector’. When switched on, it produced a ‘shaft of light’ which, when focused on any target, immediately ‘consumed it with its power’.

In one exchange, the hero, Krishna, is pursuing his enemy, Salva, in the sky, when Salva’s Vimana, the Saubha, is made invisible in some way. Undeterred, Krishna immediately fires off a special weapon: “I quickly laid on an arrow, which killed by seeking out sound”. Many other terrible weapons are described, quite matter-of-factly, in the Mahabharata, but the most fearsome of all is the one used against the Vrishis. The narrative records:

“Gurkha flying in his swift and powerful Vimana hurled against the three cities of the Vrishis and Andhakas a single projectile charged with all the power of the Universe. An incandescent column of smoke and fire, as brilliant as ten thousands suns, rose in all its splendour. It was the unknown weapon, the Iron Thunderbolt, a gigantic messenger of death which reduced to ashes the entire race of the Vrishnis and Andhakas.”

It is important to note, that these kinds of records are not isolated. They can be cross-correlated with similar reports in other ancient civilizations. The after-affects of this Iron Thunderbolt have an ominously recognizable ring. Apparently, those killed by it were said to be so burnt that their corpses were unidentifiable. The survivors fared little better, as it caused their hair and nails to fall out.

Perhaps the most disturbing and challenging, information about these allegedly mythical Vimanas in the ancient records is that there are some matter-of-fact records, describing how to build one. In their way, the instructions are quite precise.

The Mahabharata also tells of the awesome destructiveness of the war: “… (the weapon was) a single projectile charged with all the power of the Universe. An incandescent column of smoke and flame as bright as the thousand suns rose in all its splendor… An iron thunderbolt, a gigantic messenger of death, which reduced to ashes the entire race of the Vrishnis and the Andhakas…. the corpses were so burned as to be unrecognizable. The hair and nails fell out; pottery broke without apparent cause, and the birds turned white…. after a few hours all foodstuffs were infected…. to escape from this fire, the soldiers threw themselves in streams to wash themselves and their equipment…” Some say that the Mahabharata is describing an atomic war. References like this one are not isolated; but battles, using a fantastic array of weapons and aerial vehicles are common in all the epic Indian books. One even describes a Vimana-Vailix battle on the Moon! The above section very accurately describes what an atomic explosion would look like and the effects of the radioactivity on the population. Jumping into water is the only respite.

In the Sanskrit Samarangana Sutradhara (Literally, “controller of the battlefield”), it is written:

“Strong and durable must the body of the Vimana be made, like a great flying bird of light material. Inside one must put the mercury engine with its iron heating apparatus underneath. By means of the power latent in the mercury which sets the driving whirlwind in motion, a man sitting inside may travel a great distance in the sky. The movements of the Vimana are such that it can vertically ascend, vertically descend, move slanting forwards and backwards. With the help of the machines human beings can fly in the air and heavenly beings can come down to earth.”

The Subtle Bodies

Posted: August 22, 2012 by phaedrap1 in Spirituality

Behind the obvious physical being is a series of more subtle vehicles of consciousness, each with its own aura and energy dynamics.
As with “soul”, “spirit”, and so on, the term “subtle body” is unfortunately used in a very vague sense, with different esotericists using it to describe different things. “Subtle body” can refer to :
1) any of a number of distinct “subtle bodies”   or vehicles of consciousness that exist as frequency levels on the     the Etheric Plane.  The word “subtle” here is used to distinguish these bodies from the gross physical body.
2) the “astral body”, the individualised nature which consists of a finer “substance” or prakriti than the physical.
3) the “yogic body”, consisting of chakras, nadis, and ch’i or pranic energy, regardless of whether this is considered real or a visualisation to aid concentration (traditional esoteric systems did not feel the need to discriminate between the two, unlike secular modernity which is bound to a literal belief in scientism and materialism)
The Etheric Bodies collectively correspond to what the Ancient Egyptians referred to as the Ka.  The various subtle bodies constitute the energy blueprints both for those subtle bodies below them, and for the gross physical body and physical consciousness.  Although the subtle bodies are invisible to our normal sense-perception, certain individuals have – whether through innate ability or training – developed a higher or extended sense perception, and have, on this basis, described these subtle bodies, and various associated phenomena.  These clairvoyants do perceive something, even if the majority are very limited in their abilities.  They only see a little bit, and then they claim on this basis to know everything.  There are however rare clairvoyants who do have exceptional abilities.  Such higher clairvoyance seems to be always associated with both a great spiritual development and a very strong Healing ability.
Most forms of Clairvoyance – seeing auras, colours, chakras, etc – pertain to the various resonances of the Etheric Plane.  Here we have what in Theosophical and especially in popular occult terminology are called the Etheric, Emotional, and Mental bodies, also called “koshas”, “subtle bodies” or “vehicles of consciousness”.  Each has its own emanated field of influence, its own atmosphere or aura.  All writers on this subject are in agreement that the aura of the Etheric body is the smallest in extent, whilst the Mental aura is the largest of these three.  The higher spiritual auras are larger again.  However, these clairvoyants all differ as to the precise size or extent of each aura beyond the physical body (usually it ranges from a centimeter or so to a meter or more, depending on the subtle body).
In all of these planes and bodies one finds individualised resonances of higher worlds.  So the physical intellect or “Mental Body” is the lower octave, or resonance, of the Rational Universe, and the instrument of reason and imagination, or in short, thinking.  The “Emotional Body” is the lower octave, or resonance, of the Psychic Universe, and pertains to feelings, desires, and emotions; in short, teeling.  And the somatic-physical represents the basic nature of that particular plane itself (Chthonic, Material-Physical, or Etheric), and constitutes the “consciousness of the body”.
In man, there are apparently seven subtle bodies in total.  These define the human condition.  Further subtle bodies are actualised in Adepts and Enlightened Beings, whilst animals and plants are described as having fewer.  Even if this is true, this does not make them spiritually inferior or “lacking a soul”, as some religions claim, because spiritual evolution is dependent on the degree of development of the evolving higher self, and it may be the case that an animal or even a plant has a purer and more developed higher self than a human, even though the human has actualised more subtle bodies.
Each subtle body  has its own set of charkas or energy-centres.  According to the Theosophical paradigm (widely adopted by the New Age movement) the chakras serve as receiving stations that seem to have four distinct functions:
They process and assimilate the etheric energy of that particular plane.
They act as “voltage transformers” that enable the higher frequency consciousness-energy of the more spiritual subtle bodies to be received and assimilated by the subtle body in question.
They allow the consciousness of higher dimensions of self to function within the subtle body, just as the brain and nervous system does for the physical body.
Finally, quite apart from these “outer” energy-centre chakras, there are totally different “inner” organs of subtle consciousness, also called  chakras, which allow the functioning of even more inward dimensions of self.
The Gross Physical, Physical Etheric, Physical Emotional, and Physical Mental Bodies together make up the Gross Psycho-physical entity, the being that is separate from other beings, and which ceases with the death of the physical body.  The higher subtle bodies however continue in varying degrees even after the death of the physical body.
The first spiritual body, the Psychic or “astral” Etheric Body constitutes the psycho-energic body transitional between the Physical and Spiritual Subtle-Physical dimensions.  Qabalistically, it is represented by the Sefirah Tifaret, the transitional stage between the lower and higher sefirot.
With the three higher spiritual bodies we enter the realm of the universal.  There are three subtle bodies to consider here, being the form (etheric), emotion, and mental bodies repeated (or originally arising) on a higher octave.
More to come soon.

Chakra Colours and Meanings

There are seven main energy centres (chakras) of the body. These chakras are like spirals of energy, each one relating to the others. Using the seven colours of the spectrum, Colour Therapy aims to balance and enhance our body’s energy centres/chakras and also to help stimulate our body’s own healing process.  Colour Therapy uses colour to re-balance the Chakras that have become depleted of energy.

Colour therapy can be shown to help on a physical level; however there are deeper issues around the colours on the psychological and spiritual levels.  Colour has a profound effect on us on all levels, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. If our energy centres become blocked or depleted, then our body cannot function properly and this, in turn, can lead to a variety of problems on any level.

Our well being is not purely a physical issue. Many more practitioners are now treating patients in a holistic manner. That is to say, we are body, mind and spirit and none of these areas function entirely alone; each has an effect upon the other. This is why Colour Therapy can be so helpful since colour addresses all levels of our being.

All life experiences have an affect upon us. Some experiences will be positive and some negative. It is these negative experiences which can manifest themselves physically over time as dis-ease. For example, perhaps over the years we have been in a situation where we have felt unable, for one reason or another, to speak our mind, or to express our needs and feelings. This can manifest as a problem in the throat chakra. The throat chakra relates in the spiritual aspect to self expression. Thus, if our self expression has been blocked, the energy in this area will not be free flowing.  Working with the appropriate colour/colours can help to dispel negative feelings, free blocks and re-balance the body.  Listed below is each of the spectrum colours and the chakra which it relates to.
