The Subtle Bodies

Posted: August 22, 2012 by phaedrap1 in Spirituality

Behind the obvious physical being is a series of more subtle vehicles of consciousness, each with its own aura and energy dynamics.
As with “soul”, “spirit”, and so on, the term “subtle body” is unfortunately used in a very vague sense, with different esotericists using it to describe different things. “Subtle body” can refer to :
1) any of a number of distinct “subtle bodies”   or vehicles of consciousness that exist as frequency levels on the     the Etheric Plane.  The word “subtle” here is used to distinguish these bodies from the gross physical body.
2) the “astral body”, the individualised nature which consists of a finer “substance” or prakriti than the physical.
3) the “yogic body”, consisting of chakras, nadis, and ch’i or pranic energy, regardless of whether this is considered real or a visualisation to aid concentration (traditional esoteric systems did not feel the need to discriminate between the two, unlike secular modernity which is bound to a literal belief in scientism and materialism)
The Etheric Bodies collectively correspond to what the Ancient Egyptians referred to as the Ka.  The various subtle bodies constitute the energy blueprints both for those subtle bodies below them, and for the gross physical body and physical consciousness.  Although the subtle bodies are invisible to our normal sense-perception, certain individuals have – whether through innate ability or training – developed a higher or extended sense perception, and have, on this basis, described these subtle bodies, and various associated phenomena.  These clairvoyants do perceive something, even if the majority are very limited in their abilities.  They only see a little bit, and then they claim on this basis to know everything.  There are however rare clairvoyants who do have exceptional abilities.  Such higher clairvoyance seems to be always associated with both a great spiritual development and a very strong Healing ability.
Most forms of Clairvoyance – seeing auras, colours, chakras, etc – pertain to the various resonances of the Etheric Plane.  Here we have what in Theosophical and especially in popular occult terminology are called the Etheric, Emotional, and Mental bodies, also called “koshas”, “subtle bodies” or “vehicles of consciousness”.  Each has its own emanated field of influence, its own atmosphere or aura.  All writers on this subject are in agreement that the aura of the Etheric body is the smallest in extent, whilst the Mental aura is the largest of these three.  The higher spiritual auras are larger again.  However, these clairvoyants all differ as to the precise size or extent of each aura beyond the physical body (usually it ranges from a centimeter or so to a meter or more, depending on the subtle body).
In all of these planes and bodies one finds individualised resonances of higher worlds.  So the physical intellect or “Mental Body” is the lower octave, or resonance, of the Rational Universe, and the instrument of reason and imagination, or in short, thinking.  The “Emotional Body” is the lower octave, or resonance, of the Psychic Universe, and pertains to feelings, desires, and emotions; in short, teeling.  And the somatic-physical represents the basic nature of that particular plane itself (Chthonic, Material-Physical, or Etheric), and constitutes the “consciousness of the body”.
In man, there are apparently seven subtle bodies in total.  These define the human condition.  Further subtle bodies are actualised in Adepts and Enlightened Beings, whilst animals and plants are described as having fewer.  Even if this is true, this does not make them spiritually inferior or “lacking a soul”, as some religions claim, because spiritual evolution is dependent on the degree of development of the evolving higher self, and it may be the case that an animal or even a plant has a purer and more developed higher self than a human, even though the human has actualised more subtle bodies.
Each subtle body  has its own set of charkas or energy-centres.  According to the Theosophical paradigm (widely adopted by the New Age movement) the chakras serve as receiving stations that seem to have four distinct functions:
They process and assimilate the etheric energy of that particular plane.
They act as “voltage transformers” that enable the higher frequency consciousness-energy of the more spiritual subtle bodies to be received and assimilated by the subtle body in question.
They allow the consciousness of higher dimensions of self to function within the subtle body, just as the brain and nervous system does for the physical body.
Finally, quite apart from these “outer” energy-centre chakras, there are totally different “inner” organs of subtle consciousness, also called  chakras, which allow the functioning of even more inward dimensions of self.
The Gross Physical, Physical Etheric, Physical Emotional, and Physical Mental Bodies together make up the Gross Psycho-physical entity, the being that is separate from other beings, and which ceases with the death of the physical body.  The higher subtle bodies however continue in varying degrees even after the death of the physical body.
The first spiritual body, the Psychic or “astral” Etheric Body constitutes the psycho-energic body transitional between the Physical and Spiritual Subtle-Physical dimensions.  Qabalistically, it is represented by the Sefirah Tifaret, the transitional stage between the lower and higher sefirot.
With the three higher spiritual bodies we enter the realm of the universal.  There are three subtle bodies to consider here, being the form (etheric), emotion, and mental bodies repeated (or originally arising) on a higher octave.
More to come soon.

Chakra Colours and Meanings

There are seven main energy centres (chakras) of the body. These chakras are like spirals of energy, each one relating to the others. Using the seven colours of the spectrum, Colour Therapy aims to balance and enhance our body’s energy centres/chakras and also to help stimulate our body’s own healing process.  Colour Therapy uses colour to re-balance the Chakras that have become depleted of energy.

Colour therapy can be shown to help on a physical level; however there are deeper issues around the colours on the psychological and spiritual levels.  Colour has a profound effect on us on all levels, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. If our energy centres become blocked or depleted, then our body cannot function properly and this, in turn, can lead to a variety of problems on any level.

Our well being is not purely a physical issue. Many more practitioners are now treating patients in a holistic manner. That is to say, we are body, mind and spirit and none of these areas function entirely alone; each has an effect upon the other. This is why Colour Therapy can be so helpful since colour addresses all levels of our being.

All life experiences have an affect upon us. Some experiences will be positive and some negative. It is these negative experiences which can manifest themselves physically over time as dis-ease. For example, perhaps over the years we have been in a situation where we have felt unable, for one reason or another, to speak our mind, or to express our needs and feelings. This can manifest as a problem in the throat chakra. The throat chakra relates in the spiritual aspect to self expression. Thus, if our self expression has been blocked, the energy in this area will not be free flowing.  Working with the appropriate colour/colours can help to dispel negative feelings, free blocks and re-balance the body.  Listed below is each of the spectrum colours and the chakra which it relates to.

Kundalini Energy

 Kundalini Serpent

Bioelectricity, what it is and what it does:

Bioelectricity is also known as the life force, the chi, the body electric, prana, the aura, the spirit, witch power, etc. There are many different names for this energy.

Our bodies run on bioelectricity. Thoughts are electrical impulses in the brain. The brain runs on bioelectricity. When this electricity becomes imbalanced, one has seizures.

The amount of bioelectricity an individual has, determines the degree of their physical, psychological and spiritual health. People, who are ill or depressed, have lesser amounts of bioelectricity. Depression can be a manifestation of too little bioelectricity.

Bioelectricity increases our energy, our immunity to disease, our charisma, instills a positive outlook, and strengthens our thought power. With increased bioelectricity, our thoughts (electrical impulses) become stronger and are more able to manifest themselves in reality.

Some examples of bioelectricity include:

  • Buddhist monks, who sat motionless in the street, (protesters), were soaked with gasoline and lit on fire. They continued to sit still and burn to death.
  • Martial artists: busting through concrete with their fists, knife hand “karate chop,” enduring major, crushing, and lethal blows, unharmed.
  • Dim Mak: the deadly martial art of inflicting light specific blows to chi (a variation of bioelectricity) meridians (acupressure points of bioelectric energy flow) during specific times that can cause delayed death, sometimes up to five months later.
  • When the mind, through fear, panics, or when one is in a life and death situation, this sometimes enables an individual to lift extremely heavy objects, for example, back end of a car, that under normal conditions, would be impossible.
  • Telekinesis- The ability to move objects with the mind
  • Pyrokinesis- The ability to set things on fire with the mind
  • Electrokinesis- The ability to control objects, such as computers that run on electricity
  • Levitation- Some martial arts and yoga masters have the ability to levitate their bodies into the air.

The strength of one’s bioelectricity is the foundation of all magickal success. Old spells with strange ingredients have little or nothing to do with the success of a magickal working, the success depends upon the strength of the mind and the aura (the bioelectrical field) that with proper focus and direction, will affect one’s environment and others. This is employed by True WILL, and direction.

Those known as the Gods (very powerful and advanced extra-terrestrials who have genetically modified their DNA so they don’t age), have much of this very energy. Lucifer is known as “the shining one.” Many of these Gods “known as Demons” are radiant with this very energy. The hieroglyphs on the walls in the Egyptian temples, tombs and inside the Egyptian Pyramids explain how important this energy is in becoming a God.

Reaching true Godhead is difficult and requires consistent hard work and dedication. Mastery of the mind is essential. The spirit, as long as you are alive, is a part of the physical self. Yes, many of us can astral project (leave our bodies at will), BUT, the physical self acts to empower the soul as long as we are alive. My experience with the dead is they do not evolve in power any more, beyond what they had when they were alive. A spirit remains a spirit until they reincarnate physically. Only through the strength of the soul (powerful bioelectricity), will one ascend into godhood.

Kundalini and the chakras:

Kundalini is the highest form of yoga. It is a god thing. All of the tenets of Yoga, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc., and the western religions, preach helplessness, instruct one on how to be a total victim and try to make sure the results obtained from these disciplines are kept under strict control, if obtained at all. Sacred writings (hiero means “Holy” and glyph means “symbol”) left for us in Egypt  are instructions for becoming a god.

The Chakras

There are seven chakras located along the spine that are the most powerful. These are the “seven seals,” written about in the Christian bible book of “Revelation.” These are “The seven lamps of fire that burn before the throne of God.” They are referred to as “seals” because the enemy aliens sealed them in humanity to prevent our acquisition of godly power and knowledge. We have been cut off from spirituality and the astral world. Thousands of years ago, we were as the Gods, until the earth was attacked and there was “war in heaven.” Our being sealed has caused the human race to degenerate. Imbalances in this energy and blockages, along with holes in the aura cause drug and alcohol addiction, depression, a lack of concern for the feelings of others and other forms of life, abusive behavior and many other things that plague humanity.

Kundalini

The SERPENT OF FIRE is the symbol of kundalini. It lies dormant, coiled at the base of the spine, beneath the Muladhara chakra. The objective is to ascend the serpent (powerhouse of energy) from the base of the spine, through all the seven chakras and out through the crown chakra at the top of the head. In order to do this safely, all seven chakras must be completely open and unobstructed.

In order to handle a large amount of bioelectricity safely, one’s body must be strong and all of the seven chakras must be fully open.

Kundalini is the life force and is very sexual in nature.

Hatha (physical) yoga can be a big help in stimulating and opening the chakras and very recommended. By increasing our level of physical flexibility, the life force flows easier. One only needs to look at the stiffness of old age and the ill health that accompanies it, old age precedes death.

There are many different methods of awakening this power. Some of these include:

  • Chanting- Vibration is very powerful. The power of sound can break glass, weaken steel, and cement structures. Vibrations cause the chakras to open and stimulate the kundalini at the base of the spine.
  • Controlled Breathing (pranyama) – Different methods of controlled breathing are specific to each chakra. We are all aware how important the breath is to the life force. The Egyptian God Thoth has said many times “Life is in the Breath.”
  • Visualization and concentration- Through visualizing and focusing our minds on each chakra, we can open, close and control them.
  • Revamping the bioelectricity ideally, should be done slowly and gradually. One’s physical and spiritual self is accustomed to operating on a certain voltage of bioelectricity.

Increased Bioelectricity:

  • Can induce intense bliss.
  • Strengthens and intensifies the aura.
  • Gives a feeling of lightness, floating, glowing and assists in astral projection (where one wills one’s soul to leave one’s body and return safely).
  • Opens one’s mind for spirit contact and telepathic communication. Will enable one to resist disease and also provide the power to heal one’s self.
  • Protects the immune system.
  • Provides the power to work magick- true magick without props- empty handed. This is the art of the true adept. Ceremony is unnecessary.
  • This article will be followed by articles on Meditation, Vampyrism, Power Meditations and such like. The article on Chakras should be read before this and subsequent articles.

Chakra system

Reiki and the chakrasTo understand Reiki and the hand positions used one will have to have some knowledge of the chakras. The Reiki hand positions as used here in the west covers and treats all the major chakras. The chakras are both connected to the physical organs in our body and the different layers in the aura.

7 centers of energy Chakra is a Sanskrit word and means “wheel”. A wheel that spins around its own axis and can spin fast or slowly. A chakra will spin in relation to the energy level of your system. Where will you find these chakras? They exist within us all. In the same way that we have a physical body we also have a subtile body. Our chakras are parts of a large network of subtile energies.

Today we know that living cells from humans, animals and  plants give off invisible energies. Simple groups of living tissue issue a sort of light (aura) that can be seen on a Kirlian photo. Specialized groups of cells that make up physical organs create more organized energy patterns. The human body’s system consists of sensory, breathing, circulation, digestion, reproduction and secretion. There are six corresponding chakras for these bodily functions. The brain and the whole being also has one chakra, making a total of 7 major chakras. These chakras are situated at the top of the head, forehead, throat, heart, solar plexus, the navel and at the bottom of the pelvis.

The chakras and the physical body Every chakra has a corresponding organ in our physical system. The root chakra belongs together with the large intestine and the rectum. It also has a certain influence on the function of the kidneys. The navel chakra belongs to the reproduction system, the testicles and ovaries and also the urinary bladder and kidneys. The solar plexus chakra is in relation to the liver, gall bladder, stomach, spleen and the small intestine. The heart chakra belongs to the heart and the arms. The throat chakra relates to the lungs and the throat. The third eye (forehead) chakra belongs to the brain, face, nose, eyes etc. The crown chakradoes not have a corresponding organ but is related to the whole being.

There is a clear connection between the condition of a chakra and the condition of the corresponding organ. A chakra can be over active, under active or in balance. Using Reiki can give the chakras balance and the organs health.

Chakras and the endocrine system The chakras change energy from one level to another by distributing Ki (also called Chi, Prana, Mana depending on belief system) to the physical body. This is partly done through the endocrine system that regulates other systems in the body. According to tradition each chakra also corresponds to one of the major glands in the body. The Reiki hand positions not only cover the chakras but also major organs and glands. The root chakra is in relation to the adrenal gland. The navel chakra to the ovaries or testicles. The solar plexus chakra is related to the pancreas. The heart chakra belongs together with the thymus. The throat chakra corresponds to the thyroid gland. The third eye chakra has a connection to the pituitary gland. The crown chakrais usually connected to the pineal gland.

The endocrine system plays a major role for the body’s daily health. The glands release hormones directly into the blood stream and control all aspects of growth, development and daily activities.

Physical problems are often the result of a blockage in the energy flow in the system made up of meridians and chakras causing the organs or glands to not function properly.
